About

Welfare and remembrance

"Remember and care for all those impacted by service for New Zealand."

Welfare and remembrance are at the heart of everything the RSA does. Beyond the bar and the bistro, we exist to look after those who have served and to ensure they are never forgotten.

Welfare services

Practical support for those who served

The Birkenhead RSA offers a range of welfare services for veterans, current service personnel, and their families. Our welfare team is here to help, whether you need advice, financial assistance, or just someone to talk to.

If you need support or know someone who does, please get in touch. All enquiries are treated with respect and confidentiality.

  • Welfare advice

Our welfare team can help navigate entitlements, services and support available to veterans and their families.

  • Glasses and hearing aids

We can assist with the cost of replacement glasses and hearing aids for eligible members who have served.

  • Volunteer transport

Volunteer transport is available for members who need assistance getting to medical appointments and other essential visits.

  • Specialist referrals

We work with NZDF, Veterans Affairs and other agencies to connect members with the specialist support they need.

Remembrance

Lest we forget

The RSA observes three key days of national remembrance each year. We welcome the whole community to join us.

The Birkenhead RSA memorial, dedicated to New Zealand service men and women, beneath the New Zealand flag
Our memorial, dedicated to all New Zealand service men and women who have served in every conflict and peace-keeping mission.

Poppy Day

Held on the Friday before ANZAC Day each year. Poppy Day fundraising supports returned and service personnel and their families. Volunteers collect at local businesses and public spaces across the North Shore.

ANZAC Day

The Birkenhead RSA participates in the national ANZAC Day commemorations on 25 April each year. Services are held locally and members are encouraged to attend.

Armistice Day

We observe Armistice Day on 11 November each year, marking the end of the First World War and remembering all who served.

Support the mission

Donate to welfare

Your donation supports the practical welfare work we do for veterans and their families on the North Shore. Every contribution makes a real difference. We also have a separate fund for our Roof Project.

The Birkenhead RSA welfare transport van
